Augmentative and alternative communication
What is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device? It is a tool or system designed to assist individuals who have difficulties with speech or language to communicate effectively. They are particularly crucial for those who have lost their ability to speak due to conditions such as a stroke, brain injury, or other neurological disorders. They can be electronic or non-electronic and come in various forms (i.e. communication boards/books, iPhone (notes, texting, communication apps, etc.), speech generating devices (SGDs), to name a few).
Here at Navigating Neuro Speech Therapy, I evaluate and assist with determining the best method of AAC that may benefit your communication difficulties and improve the quality of life for all members involved.
Additionally, I am a Certified Lingraphica Technology Specialist. What does this mean? This means that I have been provided with the tools (a loaner device) and the training for Lingraphica technologies to utilize for people with aphasia and other communication disorders. Lingraphica AAC devices are highly customizable to meet the unique needs and preferences of each user. They are designed to improve communication, speech, and quality of life.
My goal is to provide individuals with a means to express themselves, participate in conversations, engage in social interactions, and access education and employment opportunities.
Do you think you or a loved one would benefit from the use of an AAC device to bridge the communication gap? Let’s navigate this journey together!
